Julia Roberts, the Oscar-winning actress who starred in last year’s film, Eat, Pray, Love, wants you to think about food.

Not the eating part — but cooking. And not fancy cooking, either. Roberts has just become a Global Ambassador for the Global Alliance for Clean Cookstoves.

Her job: to let the relatively affluent half of the world’s population know about the hidden danger facing the more impoverished half: deadly smoke from fuels like wood, coal or animal waste.

Julia Roberts Crashes Oscar Wilde Awards Honoring Paul Rudd

Paul Rudd knew that he would be honored at the Oscar Wilde: Honoring the Irish in Film event on Thursday night; he just didn’t know by whom.

Julia Roberts surprised the actor, presenting him with the Honorary Irishman award.

“Maybe I can become Irish,” said Roberts, poking fun at the irony that Rudd was actually born to Jewish immigrants from England. “My middle name is Fiona, which is a step closer to being Irish than Paul Rudd was five minutes ago.”

Roberts co-starred with Rudd and Bradley Cooper in a Broadway production of the play Three Days of Rain in 2006.

Ideal Beauties in Allure’s 20th Anniversary Survey

For the March twentieth-anniversary issue, on stands February 22, Allure conducted a beauty survey of 2,000 women and men, taking the pulse of the average American to see how beauty perceptions and preferences have changed over the past two decades. It examines the face of American beauty and what we as a culture find attractive. The results indicate a shift in the features we find beautiful and shows that cultural desires have changed – perhaps forever.

Julia Roberts Receives ASC Board of Governors Award

Julia Roberts was handed the American Society of Cinematographers’ (ASC) Board of Governors Award, given “to individuals who have made extraordinary achievements to advancing [sic] the art and craft of filmmaking.” Previous recipients of the award include Warren Beatty, Francis Ford Coppola, Sally Field, Morgan Freeman, Ron Howard, Sydney Pollack, Martin Scorsese and Steven Spielberg.

ASC awards committee chair Richard Crudo was quoted as saying that Roberts was a good choice because “cinematographers and actors have a special rapport that begins with a mutual trust. Julia brings something extra to that relationship and further elevates what we do with her beauty and grace. She’s a gift to every cinematographer she works with.”

According to TheWrap’s Steve Pond, after receiving the award from Tom Hanks — who made some crack about Roberts being 25 or whereabouts — the star of Eat Pray Love and Erin Brockovich “reprised a joke she made at the Oscars in 2003 when she paid tribute to cinematographers ‘because I know what I look like at 5:30 in the morning.’”

It’s Confirmed: Julia to Play Evil Queen

The Brothers Grimm: Snow White has found its Evil Queen. EW has confirmed that, as rumored, Julia Roberts will be playing the villainous role for the Brett Ratner-produced film for Relativity.

This project, of course, is not to be confused with Snow White and the Huntsman; that Universal film, which may feature Kristen Stewart in the role of Snow White, will likely star Charlize Theron as its Evil Queen. (Viggo Mortensen is in talks for the Huntsman role.)

Oscar-winning actress Julia Roberts (“Erin Brockovich”), who was last seen in the romantic drama “Eat Pray Love,” is this year’s recipient of the American Society of Cinematographers Board of Governors Award.

The star of such hits as “Pretty Woman,” “My Best Friend’s Wedding” and “Notting Hill” will receive the honor at the 25th annual ASC Outstanding Achievement Awards gala on Feb. 13 at the Grand Ballroom at Hollywood and Highland.

“Cinematographers and actors have a special rapport that begins with mutual trust,” said ASC Awards Committee chairman Richard Crudo. “Julia brings something extra to that relationship and further elevates what we do with her beauty and grace. She’s a gift to every cinematographer she works with.”
